Scandal in the Earl’s Library – Extended Epilogue

It was a crisp morning on the grounds of the resplendent estate. Two years had passed since the tumultuous events that led to the union of the Earl and Adele, and the echoes of their love story still lingered in the hallways. Life had been breathed back into the once-lifeless mansion, especially now that there was a little baby in the house, almost two years old. The sound of laughter rang out through the corridors where silence once ruled.

Luke strolled through the gardens, the dew-kissed roses and early lilies blooming to full glory as though mirroring the rejuvenation of the house. His heart fluttered with an indescribable joy when he glanced toward the house, his gaze landing on Adele standing at a window, her hand resting tenderly on her once-again growing belly. A peaceful smile adorned her face as she stared out at the estate, her eyes reflecting the beauty she saw. She was just a few months pregnant with their second child and she glowed with happiness. Lydia, Luke, and everyone in the house were very excited to meet the new addition to their loving family.

He approached her, wrapping an arm around her waist and whispering, “The house has never looked so beautiful.”

Adele turned towards him, her smile deepening, “Because it is filled with love and laughter now, Luke. Just as it should be.”

“Indeed,” he answered, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead.

The servants bustled about the house, their faces glowing with satisfaction as they went about their chores. The head cook, Mrs Mason, sighed with pleasure as she looked around her kitchen, which was now a warm, bustling center of activity.

“Never thought I’d see the day when the old place would look so cheery,” she said to Mary, the housemaid. “And all thanks to her Ladyship. God bless her.”

Meanwhile, Lydia, now a bright and beautiful young woman, entertained her friends in the drawing room, the giggles and laughter a delightful addition to the estate’s symphony.

In the library, Adele and Luke were sequestered away from the rest of the estate. A warm fire crackled in the hearth, bathing the room in a soft glow. Their eyes met over a worn out book that had once belonged to the late countess.

“I sometimes wish she could see all this, see what we’ve managed to build,” Adele said, her voice barely above a whisper. “She’d be proud.”

Luke reached out, brushing a lock of hair from Adele’s face, his fingers lingering against her warm skin, “She would be. I believe she’s watching over us, over this home she loved so much.”

Their eyes locked, and the passion that always simmered beneath the surface sparked to life. They leaned in, their lips meeting in a kiss that was both tender and full of promise. As they pulled away, Adele laid her head on Luke’s chest, the sound of his heartbeat lulling her into a sense of peace she had never known before.

“Together, Adele,” Luke murmured into her hair, “we have breathed life into this home. But most importantly, we have breathed life into each other.”

As the sun set, painting the sky with hues of pink and orange, the Earl’s estate stood tall and proud. The dark days were a thing of the past, replaced by a love story that echoed in every stone, every flower, every servant, and every smile.

As dawn broke, the melodious birdsong wafting from the gardens announced the start of a new day. Within the estate, the servants were already bustling about, eager to get started on the day’s tasks. Mary couldn’t help but remark to another servant, “Ever since her Ladyship arrived, this house is full of joy. She truly brought the light back.”

Inside the main house, Luke stood near the window of his study, watching the sunrise paint the sky in hues of orange and pink. His gaze fell on Adele, who sat across the room, her attention engrossed in a book. Even after two years of being together, he couldn’t help but marvel at her beauty, the serene glow on her face accentuated by the early morning light.

Crossing the room, he knelt down beside her, pressing a gentle hand against the tiny bump of her belly. A loving smile spread across his face as he felt a faint movement from within.

“Good morning,” he murmured, placing a tender kiss on Adele’s cheek. She turned to him, a soft smile playing on her lips as she leaned into his touch.

“Good morning, my lord,” she replied, her hand coming to rest atop his, their fingers intertwining naturally.

Their quiet morning was soon interrupted by the arrival of Lydia, who bounced into the room, her youthful energy lighting up the space.

“Father, Adele,” she greeted them, her eyes sparkling with excitement. “I’ve received another letter! Mr. Harrison has asked me to accompany him to the upcoming ball.”

Her words filled the room with a fresh wave of exhilaration. Luke couldn’t help but chuckle at Lydia’s enthusiasm, and he felt a pang of pride for the young woman she had become.

“That’s wonderful news, Lydia,” Adele praised, her hand giving Luke’s a reassuring squeeze. “You deserve all the happiness in the world.”

Later that afternoon, in the sanctuary of their shared chamber, Adele and Luke found themselves wrapped in each other’s arms. Their kisses were soft and languid, filled with an undercurrent of desire that had become a delightful part of their lives together.

As their clothes slipped to the floor, Luke gently cradled Adele’s face in his hands, his eyes drinking in the sight of her. Her skin, soft and glowing in the afternoon sunlight, her hair cascading over her shoulders, her belly round with their child – she was a vision that took his breath away.

“My love,” he murmured, pressing his forehead against hers. His voice was hoarse, filled with emotion, “You have no idea what you mean to me, Adele.”

His words ignited a spark within her, a flame of desire that only he could kindle. The beat of her heart echoed in her ears, thundering in rhythm with the profound love she felt for him. Cupping his face with her hands, her fingers traced the rough stubble of his jaw, memorizing every inch of him. “I love you too, Luke,” she whispered, her voice tremulous, each word carrying the weight of her emotions.

His answering smile was intoxicating, his emerald eyes shining with love and unspoken promises. The moment hung between them, a quiet surrender to the connection they shared.

Slowly, Luke leaned into her, his lips capturing hers in a passionate embrace. His kisses were intoxicating, a perfect blend of sweetness and heat that left her craving more. Their bodies moved rhythmically, a dance as old as time, yet uniquely their own.

His touch was both tender and ardent, a testament to his mastery. The subtle caress of his hands sent shivers coursing down her spine, drawing gasps from her lips. The feel of his body against hers was a sensation she could never tire of, a perfect match that stoked her desires.

She welcomed his every move, each touch, each kiss setting her skin aflame. Their bodies moved together, a dance guided by the rhythm of their heartbeats. The world outside ceased to exist as they lost themselves in each other, the only sounds in the room were their labored breaths and whispered words of love.

As the peak of their shared pleasure washed over them, they clung to each other, their hearts pounding in unison. The aftermath left them glowing, a satiating warmth that spread through their entwined bodies. They lay there, holding each other close, basking in the afterglow of their love.

The silence that enveloped them was comforting, the sound of their steady breathing and the occasional whisper of sweet nothings enhancing the intimate atmosphere. Luke’s hand gently rested on her rounded stomach, their shared joy at their growing family evident in his touch.

In the following weeks, the estate was buzzing with preparations for the upcoming ball. It was an occasion that Lydia was particularly excited about. Adele was happy to help Lydia prepare.

One sunny afternoon, as Adele and Lydia were going through a collection of Lydia’s gowns, Luke entered the room. He was amused to see the pair buried under mountains of satin and silk, their faces flushed with excitement. However, when he spotted a letter in Lydia’s hand, he felt a stab of concern.

“Another letter from Mr. Harrison?” he asked, arching an eyebrow.

Lydia nodded enthusiastically. “He’s written a poem for me, father. It’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever read.” She waved the parchment in her hand before shyly tucking it away.

Luke shared a look with Adele, a clear expression of doubt on his face. “I still don’t understand what you see in that man, Lydia. He’s all airs and graces with no substance.”

Lydia gasped, a hint of defiance in her eyes. “Father! Mr. Harrison is a gentleman. He is kind, polite, and he adores me.”

“Every man will adore you, Lydia. You are a prize to be won,” Luke replied, his tone serious. “But you deserve a man who sees beyond the prize. A man who loves you for your wit, your strength, and your kind heart.”

Lydia seemed taken aback, but before she could retort, Adele intervened. “Luke has a point, dear. You should take your time and understand a man before giving him your heart. We only want what’s best for you.”

Lydia nodded, a thoughtful expression on her face. “I understand, Adele. I promise I’ll be careful.”

Later that evening, Adele and Luke found themselves alone in their bedroom. The stresses of the day had melted away, replaced by the warmth of their shared love. As they lay in each other’s arms, Luke traced gentle circles on Adele’s swollen belly, eliciting a sigh of contentment from her.

“I worry about Lydia,” Luke confessed, his tone filled with concern. “I want her to be happy, but I also want her to be safe.”

Adele squeezed his hand reassuringly. “She’s smart, Luke. She has learned from the best. She’ll make the right choice when the time comes.”

Luke glanced at Adele, his gaze filled with love and admiration. “You’re right, my love,” he admitted, pressing a tender kiss on her forehead. “As always.”

The moment was broken when a sudden movement from within Adele startled them both. A shared laugh bubbled between them, the sound echoing through the room, chasing away any lingering worries.

In the final days leading up to the ball, the estate was a flurry of activity. Guests began to arrive from neighboring estates, their excited chatter and laughter adding to the vibrancy of the mansion. As Adele watched from a window, she felt a wave of contentment wash over her.

Luke had been spending more time with Mr. Harrison, their mutual respect for Lydia bridging the gap between them. Despite his initial reservations, Luke began to appreciate the young man’s genuine adoration for his daughter and his inherent kindness.

One afternoon, as the sun bathed the estate grounds in a warm glow, Luke found himself in a quiet corner of the gardens, engrossed in conversation with Mr. Harrison.

“You truly care for Lydia?” Luke asked, watching the younger man intently.

Mr. Harrison didn’t hesitate. “Yes, my Lord. I adore her. Her intelligence, her spirit, her kindness… she’s unlike any woman I’ve ever met.”

Luke gave a slow nod, appreciating the sincerity in the young man’s words. “And if I were to give my blessing…?”

Mr. Harrison’s eyes widened in surprise. “I would be honored, my Lord.”

Later that evening, as Luke and Adele lay together in the peaceful solitude of their room, Luke recounted his conversation with Mr. Harrison. Adele listened intently, her hand resting lightly on her rounded stomach.

“You really think he’s the right one for her?” she asked, her gaze fixed on Luke’s.

Luke nodded, a soft smile playing on his lips. “I believe so, yes. I see a bit of me in him. He’s not perfect, but his love for Lydia is genuine. And that’s all that truly matters, isn’t it?”

Adele’s smile widened, her eyes shining with unshed tears. “You’re right, Luke,” she said, reaching up to caress his cheek. “And I’m proud of you for letting go of your worries and giving them your blessing.”

Their conversation was interrupted when the baby within Adele decided to make its presence known with a strong kick. Both of them laughed, their joy echoing around the room.

Days later, as the estate brimmed with guests, music, and laughter, Lydia took a moment to stand beside Adele and Luke, her eyes sparkling with happiness.

“Thank you,” she whispered, leaning into Adele for a gentle hug. “For everything.”

As the night deepened and the music played on, the laughter and joy filling the mansion seemed to declare one undeniable fact – the estate had truly regained its former glory. And as Luke held Adele close, their shared warmth and love seemed to promise even brighter days to come.

  1. Lovely story full of romance and suspense. You asked me to review it so I have to tell you what seems wrong. You explained how Adele and Luke were kidnapped. Lydia was not kidnapped so how did she end up bound and gagged in the stabkes? At the end of the book you have Adele 6 months married with a baby bump. This was a good ending. However, in the extended epilogue it has been an additional 2 years and she is pregnant with her baby kicking. It is too long for the same pregnancy so is she expecting for a second time? If yes, then you should say that. If not then you need to fix either the book or the epilogue. In addition the cooks name has changed so if the original cook retired then the epilogue should say that. I want to point out that Mr Delves was given life imprisonment for murdering Gsendolyn. He would have been hanged if he had not freed Luke to go save Lydia. So how is he looking at Lydia just two years later? This makes no sense. I would suggest leave the book as is unless you can show when Lydia is kidnapped. It is probably much easier for you to correct the epilogue and remove the errors. The book itself was good.

  2. I loved this book! I must admit that I agree with Madhu – all the same questions she had about the epilogue bothered me too. I agree the epilogue should be changed or removed. Thanks for the great read!

  3. I love this book very much. The characters are absolutely interesting and entertaining as well as the story line is thrilling and full of mystery. I also like the extended epilogue as it gives a wonderful happy ending to the love story. However there are some discrepancies to it that had me confused from some of the names of the servants to events as the appearance of the old buttler who’s supposed to be in prison, to the first pregnancy of Adele after their six months of marriage to the latter after two years. Well it sounds like it may be a different story. Otherwise the main story is absolutely amazing and entertaining.

  4. I also agree with Madhu. There are too many loose ends and unanswered questions. As a reader I want to tie up all the ends but this story has me “upset” and a bit flustered.

    1. Thank you for your message my dear Vickie.

You’re right and I really appreciate your feedback! I will keep that in mind for my future stories.

Make sure to stay tuned because I have more coming!

  5. Sane comment as Madhu. It is really too bad that you have missed linking the end of the book to the epilogue. At least if this was her second pregnancy then I would mention a toddler in that case.

  6. I always loved the extended epilogue. I don’t understand the other readers comments. I understood that at the end of the book Adele was six months pregnant and that Mr. Delves was giving a life sentence. In the extended epilogue we read “two years had passed and …..a little baby in the house almost two years old…etc… Anyways I really enjoy reading about Luke and Adele story and their happy ending. It was a great story I could not put the book down. Congratulations. Looking forward to another great story.

  7. Loved reading the book. But, it would have been nice to have revealed if the toddler was a boy or girl.
